FEP Awards 2025 Results!

FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year 2025 is Wolfgang Gangl!

After two consecutive years of Portuguese dominance, we have a new overall winner for the FEP Awards: Wolfgang Gangl from Austria is now the new European Professional Photographer of the Year.

Again the competition created great interest among European photographers; 340 European photographers submitted almost 3200 images for the FEP Awards. We are honoured and thankful that many of Europea’s finest photographer wish to take part, a heartfelt thank you to all.

FEP Awards chairman Johan Brouwers and his team of international judges have once again worked tirelessly to score this massive amount of images in order the find the best of the best  we cannot thank you enough!

Chairman Brouwers comments: “Although this year marked the second consecutive time we conducted a thorough check of the raw files of the finalists’ entries, the number of disqualified photos still increased by 25%, reaching a total of 42. This was particularly evident in categories with strict editing limitations — such as Nature, Landscape, Reportage, and Wedding — where we had to reject several submissions. But perhaps the provision of numerous translations of the rules also ensured that certain types of infringements that were frequently identified in 2024, such as the use of stock photos, were now almost non-existent.

Ultimately, our goal remains clear: to uphold the values of pure photography by placing authenticity and integrity at the heart of the competition.

The Race for the Photographer of the Year title

Even though the race for the Overall Winner remained exciting right up until the very last vote was cast, Wolfgang Gangl’s victory came as no real surprise. His striking, personal style had already earned him one Gold and one Silver award in 2025, and this year he added another Gold and one Bronze to his tally— a truly worthy winner! However to claim that title, he had to fend off two double Gold Award winners — Martina Wärenfeldt and Arun Mohanraj — as well as Yuliy Vasilev, who not only won Gold in the Advertising and Commercial category but also took home one of the new Image of the Year awards.

Images of the Year

The new Image of the Year awards in some categories consist of several clearly distinct photographic specialties such as Architecture, Macro, Nude, New Born, Food, etc.

Top-scoring images that receive an individual Excellence Award may also qualify for an Image of the Year title. In addition to the previously mentioned Yuliy Vasilev from Bulgaria, who received an award in Food Photography, also Martina Wärenfeldt from Sweden was honoured with an Image of the Year Award in Creative Portrait.
