EV : European Videographer

The European Videographer (EV) qualification is an entry level qualification that aims to recognise competence and a professional standard for those who earn their lives as Professional videographers. Even at EV level, technical skill, composition and artistic expression is required. The application process for EV is easy, you only need to apply online with a set of 3 Videos.

EV Qualified European Videographer

To be eligible to apply for an EV Certificate the candidate:

1. must earn a living as a maker of video productions. The EV Certificates are only available to those who are authors of original material and not for technicians or support staff.
2. must be a member of a national professional photographers/videographers association. The national association must be a member of the Federation of European Professional Photographers, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant FEP member associations. Application by non members can be accepted providing they are professional videographers legally registered and resident in European countries where there are not FEP member national associations to represent them. If an application is received from a videographer who is not member of a FEP member association, they must be registered with the tax authorities as a professional videographer and they must show their VAT registration number or certificate of professional insurance which will be validated by the FEP.
3. may be self-employed or an employee.
4. must have operated as a professional photographer/videographer for at least one consecutive year.
5. must fulfil the necessary requirements in technical skills and achieve an acknowledged standard (determined by the FEP) necessary to uphold a professional status.
6. must satisfy the requirements for professional practice skill, which will be assessed by the FEP member national association.
7. must accept the FEP European Code of Professional Conduct.

Submission of Work

1. each candidate must submit online a panel of 3 videos ideally no longer than three minutes. An exception to this are documentaries these can extend to 12 minutes. (Longer videos may be considered by being pre-qualified by the video judging chair.) No names or additional identification marks may appear on any of the submitted work.
2. the submitted videos will be judged by 3 international judges. EV candidates need 2 VOTES OUT OF 3 to be deemed successful. The judges are looking at the submission as a whole body of work rather than individual videos.
3. the videos must have no markings identifying the candidate .
4. anonymity of the candidates will be respected at all times; however, a list of the names of the candidates will be forwarded to the national headquarters of the relevant FEP member association.
5. the appropriate application fee (50 euros) must be paid during the uploading
6. successful EV videographers will receive the EV logo and a digital certificate (on web resolution). If a printed certificate is requested, a file with printing resolution will be sent to the related national association only.
7. EV certificate holders may apply for a QEV qualification at the first available session. To apply for the QEV certificate they must be members of an FEP national association.
8. unsuccessful candidates will receive from the FEP a constructive critique of their works indicating why, on this occasion it has not been successful.

Application Fee

An application fee of € 50,00 is due to cover the costs, such as venue charges, certification, jury expense, etc. Candidates have to pay their fees by credit card during the uploading of their submission directly to the FEP. The FEP secretariat will keep tracks of the membership of the candidate and of the payment of the entry fee. The registration will be considered only when FEP will receive evidence of the payment of the entry fee made by the candidate.

Judging

The Jury will be drawn from delegates nominated annually by the national organisations within their relevant QEV and Master QEV holders, and then selected by the Video Jury Chairman.

Copyright and Releases

The copyright of all videos submitted remains with the copyright holder. However, the FEP reserves the right to use any of the videos submitted, without payment, for display and publicity purposes for this and future FEP awards or projects. It is vital that the candidate obtains the permission of the client and/or the copyright holder and any relevant model release forms, where appropriate before submitting the work.

Secretariat and Organisation

All candidates will receive written notification of the result of their submission from the FEP Secretariat. A list of all successful candidates ONLY will be announced. The anonymity of all candidates will be respected at all times including during judging sessions. The FEP Secretariat will not allow for judging any submitted videos unless the following procedures have been adhered to if:

• the videos submitted do not conform to these rules
• the submission fee has not been paid
• the membership of the candidates has not been confirmed by the relevant association
