Secrets of Lightshaping

Brendan de Clercq is an Irish-French photographer and mixed media artist. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, and after training as a professional photographer in Amsterdam, he received a BA degree in photographic design. His French father was an acclaimed photographer and documentary filmmaker and passed on to him his strong visual orientation.

Brendan’s work is characterized by a powerful visual language with a clear, emotional expression. His goal is to touch his audience emotionally with his images and to convey to them the complexity of the images. His portfolio is a direct reflection of himself. While his earlier work was dark and contrasting, it is currently more vibrant and truly captures the light.

Brendan has made a name for himself teaching his knowledge and photographic skills in master classes and workshops, motivating ambitious photographers worldwide. Brendan is passionate about photography. He literally lives it. But he’s not a tech nerd. He looks for the relationship to his model, to the environment and then translates this connection into expressive portraits. He is able to do this not least thanks to his knowledge of the special effects of light. Light over which he has creative control. A professional light – light from Profoto!
A powerful portrait connects the viewer to the subject and his or her emotion. Besides the necessary techniques and timing, observation and empathy are vital for a powerful image. In this session about portrait photography & lightshaping, Brendan focusses on all these elements.
He will tell you all the Secrets of Lightshaping about Hard light soft light which lightshapers you can use, about distance and direction. Together with Sony he will bring you work up to a Higher Level!!
This will be an on-stage session with Brendan combining lecture with hands-on examples.
Brendan will showcase the power of good light, light shaping along with the opportunities you have with high resolution cameras as well as Sony a9III’s unique global shutter and the creativity that brings.
