Biography

Piroska Mihalka - I Studied Commercial Photography at Sheridan College in Oakville, Canada, graduating with a Diploma in Commercial Photography. A few years later I enrolled in the Fine Arts program at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema/Studio Art. After graduating, I worked as a set photographer, for over 10 years, on over 50 feature films in Montreal working directly with (naming a few) actors as John Travolta, Burt Reynolds, Michael Cain, Patrick Dempsey, Annie Lennox and director Robert Altman. I moved back to Europe in 1993 and since lived in 6 different countries including China for two years during the preparation of the Olympic Games of 2008. I published a book while living in Beijing called "One Year in China" which was sold at the Photography Museum in Antwerp and the Standaard Book Shops all over Belgium. I have had over 30 photography exhibitions internationally: highlighting the Canadian Embassy in Budapest and the Museum of Photography in Hungary, the Museum Kempenland in Eindhoven, NL, Gallery 8 in London, UK, and the Int’l Broadcast Centre in Glasgow, UK, during the Commonwealth Games in 2014. I am a member of the Belgian Association of Professional Photographers through which I have received numerous awards in their FEP (Federation of European Photographers) Competitions. In 2017 I earned a QEP Certificate in Illustrative Photography. Between 2010 and 2020 I contributed photographs to a yearly publication called FOODPRINT, a yearbook and photo gallery on Gastronomy in Belgium. I won the title PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR in 2014. My work cannot be put into a category; I am inspired by everything. In the past I was more known as a portrait photographer although having experience with film/animation, painting and ceramics, my work spreads to a wider spectrum which can be easier understood as Illustrative Photography.
